Following Jesus
Following Jesus is the most important decision you will ever make. It’s not just a prayer — New Life begins when you follow Jesus. He offers forgiveness for your past, purpose for your present, and hope for your future today.
Step 1 : Recognize that you are a sinner.
First, admit your spiritual need. No one is perfect and we have all fallen short of God’s standard. Confession opens the door for grace to remove the shame that we carry. We can’t make excuses or blame others. (See: Romans 3:23)
Step 2 : Believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for you.
You must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, that after three days He rose and now offers you forgiveness and a right relationship with God. (See: 1 Peter 3:18)
Step 3 : Repent of your sins.
“Repent” means to change your mind and your direction. You surrender control, turn away from things that separate you from God, and turn toward Him. (See: Acts 3:19)
Step 4 : Choose to follow Jesus.
It’s not about cleaning up your life first. It’s about surrendering your life to Jesus and following Him. When you do, you are choosing to trust Him, follow Him, and allow Him to transform you.
Example Prayer:
If your not sure what to pray, here’s your start. You can pray this prayer. As you pray you can add to it: Be open, be honest, He hears you, and He loves you.
{Jesus, today, I give you my life, thank you for dying for my sins. I choose, to put my faith in you. Forgive me, give me a fresh start. For the rest of my life, I belong to you. In Jesus name Amen.}
